Footprints in the dust
In the footsteps of the Jewish community in Pezinok
Pamätihodnosti židovskej komunity v Pezinku
The history of the Jewish community in Pezinok dates back to the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries, when Count Peter of Svätý Jur and Pezinok settled Jews who had fled Bratislava on his estates. Over the centuries, the community grew and contributed to the economic and cultural life of the town. In 1529, as a result of tragic events, the Jews were expelled from the inner city and many of them were burned at the stake. Nevertheless, in the 17th century, they began to return and settle on the estates of the Pálfi family, who provided them with protection. In the 18th and 19th centuries, Jews in Pezinok built synagogues and cemeteries to serve their religious needs. The synagogue, built in the Moorish-Byzantine style in 1868, was one of the most important buildings of the community. However, after World War II, the community disappeared and the synagogue was demolished in 1958. We will show you the remains of the Jewish community in Pezinok, commemorated not only by the ruins of monuments.

Both are now just memories, which we will recall in pictures and stories.
The first is now just a memory, but the second still exists under a veil of silence in the shade of old trees.
